Platinum Powerboats: The Birth of a New Legend in Performance Boating
A New Standard in Offshore Innovation
Platinum Powerboats, founded by offshore champions Scott Grants and Edwin Scheer and based out of O’Fallon, Missouri, has one mission: to build the best outboard catamaran possible. And from what I’ve seen and heard, they’re well on their way to delivering just that.
The Vision Begins
I had the pleasure of being one of the first people to hear about this exciting new venture three years ago. From the moment I spoke to Scott, a good friend of mine, I could tell this wasn’t just another outboard cat — it was something truly special.
He explained how they consulted with engineers and scientists from other fields who had made significant advances in the use of materials such as carbon fiber and advanced laminations. Their goal was to push the science to unlock the full potential of these materials.
Engineering Excellence
Although much of the science behind the boat remains proprietary, it’s clear that these efforts have significantly enhanced the hull’s strength and integrity. Their detailed chemical bonding tests have delivered incredible results, setting the stage for what could be the strongest boat in the market.
Next, the team turned its attention to form and function. They consulted with aerospace engineers and had the hull hydro- and aerodynamically tested to perfect aspects like drag, lift, tunnel compression, and other performance-critical factors that directly affect ride quality, speed, and safety.
Design with Purpose
One of the standout features is the cockpit — the largest in its class — designed for optimal comfort. Rear loungers were also added for those laid-back moments when you’re rafted off with friends. Every detail, every curve, and every component was purpose-built.
“We could have come to market 2½ years ago, but we wanted to build the next generation of catamarans. A boat that intersected science and technology in its practical application, encompassing areas like engineering and data analysis,” stated Grants.
A Grand Debut at Lake of the Ozarks
The very first Platinum cat will make its debut this spring at the Lake of the Ozarks (LOTO), and it’s already turning heads — and it hasn’t even hit the water yet.
The boat is currently being painted by none other than Stephen Miles Design, one of the most respected names in custom marine paintwork. To complete the package, it’ll be paired with a matching CTS tilt trailer — ensuring that even out of the water, this boat is a showstopper.
What the Early Buyers Are Saying
I also had the chance to catch up with Ken Paddock, one of the first buyers of a Platinum Powerboat. His excitement was contagious.
“This is exactly what the performance boating world needed,” he told me. “The attention to detail, the innovation — it’s on another level.”
The Journey is Just Beginning
Stay tuned, as hull #4 of the 42’-8” cat goes into the mold this week. This is just the beginning for Platinum Powerboats. With passion, innovation, and performance at its core, Edwin, Scott, and their team are set to make serious waves in the world of high-performance boating.
